hello! i’m

KANAMI ANDERSON

I’ve been guiding people out of their comfort zones and into wild new places for over two decades. I was a whitewater rafting guide for twelve years before finding my true passion in teaching yoga, health, and wellness.

ABOUT KANAMI

I have been a dedicated yoga practitioner since the age of eighteen, but it wasn’t until later in life that things lined up for me to become a teacher. After many shoulder injuries during my 10+ years of whitewater rafting and kayaking, it was finally time to transition out of outdoor guiding and into the world of health and wellness.

I completed my Level 1 Yoga Teacher Training course in 2011, and Level 2 in 2013 with Julia McCabe, and shortly after I opened up a small yoga studio in the ski town of Niseko, Japan. I called it Powder Yoga. Eventually Powder Yoga became Niseko’s main, central yoga studio, which I then sold in 2020 and moved my life to Southern Mexico. I now live in the surfing mecca of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico, where I operate a small yoga school and private massage studio.

“Kanami is knowledge with a smile. I took the 200 hour YTT course in Mexico with her and our group received the same level of energy, enthusiasm, and encouragement on day 21 that we did on day 1. We received the same Kanami at 7 am and at 6 pm.

I’ve taken lots of courses for other certifications and I’ve never had a teacher that is as accommodating and caring as she is. I would take the course again just to be around someone who truly embodies the full spectrum of health and wellness. I cannot recommend this course enough!!”

– NINA PURCELL

“After completing the 200hr YTT with Kanami I can confidently recommend this certification to yoga teachers of all levels. This was my second YTT and I am taking away a wealth of new knowledge I hadn’t previously been exposed to.

Kanami utilizes an epic curriculum alongside her many years of experience. Not only did she teach us the many interpretations of yoga philosophy but how to apply it to our own lives and practice – I couldn’t be happier. Thank you Kanami!”

– JENIKA DOHERTY

“I was a regular student at Kanami’s yoga studio in Japan, and I decided to take her Intensive Spring Course: it was a truly transformative experience. Always cheerful, welcoming and wise – that’s Kanami as a teacher. I highly recommend signing up for all classes, programs and courses run by her.”

– PIOTREK BODERA

“Working with Kanami on personalized yoga and Pilates videos was the best investment I made all year. She made sure to create a workout and practice that worked with my body and fit into my personal goals. I can’t recommend Kanami or this process enough—treat yourself and your body to some custom routines!”

– JACKI STRENIO

“Everything was well organized and I felt really well taken care of during Kanami’s Mexico Retreat. I liked that she was flexible but still made the twice daily yoga classes challenging for me: I loved working into Peak Poses! The food was delicious, the location was perfect, and Puerto Escondido has such a good vibe. I wish I was still there.”
